Recent industry trends show that internet advertising in Australia will upstage newspaper and free-to-air advertisements by 2014.

According to the Media and Entertainment Outlook report published by PricewaterhouseCoopers, internet marketing will be worth $3.8 billion. The local media industry, including advertising and consumer or subscription revenues, will grow from 6.7 per cent this year to $30.16bn.

The forecasts underline the importance of the internet to all media companies, as the bulk of that growth in future years will come from online advertising, which is expected to increase by 15.4 per cent a year.
And why not, the report emphasises the impact of the broadband revolution, stating Australia’s proposed National Broadband Network should enable media growth.

Today online classified ads are surpassing newspaper ads in popularity. Compared to their print counterparts, internet advertising is efficient, cost-effective, interactive and flexible.

With online ads, the description of the product or service being offered does not need to be skimped down to small, abbreviated words. In most cases, the description text box allows for long sentences or paragraphs so that the advertiser can fully describe their item. Further, advertiser can use graphics, images, and pictures to attract customers.

Here are the few reasons why internet advertising is surging ahead:

Cost benefits: Newspaper classifieds or advertisements charge their clients on the number of words used and the space used. More space means more expenses. While internet advertising is cheap or virtually free.

Market reach: In the past newspapers were the only options. However, today advertisers want to reach the e-world where everybody is mostly logged in for their every need from buying products to chatting with friends. Internet provides them with largest reach possible which is rewarding considering the minimum cost involved. This, where businesses are concerned, translates to a larger potential market and higher sales volume.

Interactivity: The advertisers can explore their creativity online and design interactive ads for perspective buyers. There is no space constraint as in print ads.

Results: Surveys and statistics show that the response garnered by online classified ads is phenomenal. The reason: people buy newspapers primarily for the news they contain. They might not go through the classified ads. However, online classified ad websites only deal with classified ads so the people browsing through net are those who are looking for something. When they find what they want, they respond immediately.

Thinking of buying an additional domain that is similar to your current domain? Then you need to read this. Buying additional, or add on domains is not uncommon and good business practice if you are concerned about competitors buying a similar domain to yours and stealing customers.Purchasing multiple domains is fine but it’s what you do with them after purchase is where complications can occur.

If you use your additional domains to create duplicate websites that mirror each other your online marketing campaign will suffer. All of the top search engines state that you should NOT do this and if you do you are blatantly violating their rules and they will penalise you by banning one of both of your sites permanently from search engines. How would people find your website then?

Matt Cutts is a software engineer for Google and has inside information in regards to add-on domains and creating websites with duplicate content. Take a look at what he has to say below:

If you’re concerned about these issues and think that you may be breaching some Search Engine rules give us a call for a free analysis on 1300 657 362. Don’t risk being blacklisted by Google, it’s not worth it.

You’ve probably heard of Facebook and you might even have a profile on Facebook but have you considered using Facebook to attract more visitors to your businesses website, increase your public profile, create a relationship with your current and future clients and to increase revenue? If not then maybe it’s time you did.

With over 400 million active users (and growing) from all over the world on Facebook imagine the reach your business profile could have? If you are more interested in the local Australian market then it might be handy to know that there are close to 6 million Australians (over the age of 18 years old) who actively use Facebook, and this number is growing daily. No other advertising outlet will get your business in front of that many people – The Australian Newspaper is accessed by approximately 2.1 million online readers; The Australian Women’s Weekly has a readership number of 2.1 million; and advertising on television, although effective, is expensive.

Facebook is free, easy to use and allows you to talk directly to people who are interested in your business. Still need convincing? Below are the top 15 benefits of Facebook to you and your business:

Benefit 1: BRANDING: Facebook is great for creating your bran and instilling it into people’s ideas about you. Creating a brand allows you to be more recognisable in the heavily occupied business world so it is important to be able to stand out.

Benefit 2: CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT: Entice, engage and invite customers to your business with a variety of marketing initiatives—promotions, contests, events, sales, special offers—which can all be advertised on your Facebook page.

Benefit 3: DRIVE WEB TRAFFIC: By including a link to your website on your Facebook page you are encouraging fans, friends or interested parties to visit your website, therefore increasing your web traffic—remember the more people to your website the better.

Review others profiles and find out if they’re the right people to target for future business leads. Open your business world up to the possibilities of Facebook.

Benefit 7: CLIENT/CUSTOMER RETENTION: Facebook allows you another avenue to connect with your clients and customers and when they feel appreciated their more likely to stay a client or customer. Increase customer retention rates by listening to what your clients and customers want – Facebook is a great interface for conversation.

Benefit 8: ACCESS TO SOCIAL NETWORKING: In today’s world if you’re not ‘on-line’ then you’re seriously lacking the cool factor. Most people, when they want information, head straight for the internet. And with the increasing popularity of Facebook people now head straight to Facebook if they want to know more about a person or business. You never know who is using Facebook and with the boom in social marketing your networking possibilities are endless.

Benefit 9: VIRAL MARKETING: Viral marketing is word of mouth on warp speed. Take advantage of this latest marketing tool and get your name out there fast and to lots of people. Create an excitement about your products or services that will result in people not being able to resist wanting to be your Facebook friend.

Benefit 10: BRAND AWARENESS: Do you know how your customers and clients view your business? Do you know if they have any thoughts for improving your business? Brand awareness is a vital element of marketing and is used to measure your client’s knowledge of your business. Tell people more about your business by using the socially acceptable Facebook. It is easy to use and people will like reading about your business and your brand and how it came to be.

Benefit 11: CUSTOMER FEEDBACK: Facebook is a comfortable and user friendly platform that people are happy to use which is why it is a great way to get customer feedback on elements of your business. Use your wall to ask questions and see what responses you get. It also gives you the opportunity to speak directly to customers and clients about any of their comments.

Benefit 12: BUSINESS HUMANISATION: Put a face, or many faces, to your business. Facebook advertising is a newer element to Facebook and is a paid service which is quick and easy, targeted to your exact demographic and tracked so you can see the results.

Benefit 14: SOLID USER FOCUSSED COMPANY: Although Facebook has only been around since 2004 its growth in popularity is unlike anything before it.
